Colville’s Zig Grunert won going away in the Eagle Track Fever Four class scoring a 216-144 victory over LD Fletcher.

Not surprisingly, Grunert credits some basics, “Good car, good tires and a good engine,” as the keys to the title.

Grunert is a seven-time Eagle Track Fever-Four champion and three times has won the “Rick Martin Memorial” in dirt track Modifieds.

Grunert said he got his start in racing in go-karts where he was a three-time Spokane Kart Racing Association Yamaha Lite champion between 1984-95. He’s also a multiple winner of the NW Modifieds “Gary Miller 100” race.

Grunert drives a 1973 Ford Pinto with a 2,000-cc engine. His one-person pit crew consists of Robert Grunert.

An apple farmer for 37 years by profession, Grunert works part-time for his sponsor, Paul’s Engine and Machine in Oroville, Washington when time allows.

Mike Olmsted scored in a relatively close race to the Super Stock championship in 2024 at Republic’s Eagle Track Raceway.

From Tonasket, Wash., Olmsted (263) outpointed Scott Kunz (241) for the title and said that “a lot” went into winning the crown. Son Noah Olmstead was third in the standings.

Olmstead has been racing for 40 years and got started, “Because they don’t give (speeding) tickets on the track.”

His championship car is a 1978 Camaro powered by a 350 cubic-inch motor and Olmsted’s operation races because of “A real good wife, son Noah and lots of good friends.”

Olmsted follows in his dad’s footsteps in being a mechanic alongside his father and had more time to race due to retirement this past December.

His family has always been involved in racing and he and his wife of 42 years have a special place to celebrate anniversaries — naturally at the race track.
