FORMER CHAMPS CHASE IDAHO 200 PURSE
Three former champions will chase the biggest purse in Idaho 200 history in the milestone 25th edition of the race July 26 and 27 at Stateline Speedway.
As part of the 50th season of racing at the Post Falls oval, there is $20,000 going to the winner in the event presented by Knottical Marine. In addition to the cash the victor will also win a seven-day cruise.
The past three race winners are part of a huge field and include Corey Allard (2021), Haeden Plybon (2022) and defending champion Nick Gibson among the 51 pre-race entries.
This year’s 200 will feature the first annual Gauge Howell Memorial TriState Hobby Stock Race that will pay $10,000 to win. Howell, just 15, was killed as a result of a freak tire explosion in 2023.
“We anticipate over 30 cars to enter this race,” Stateline general manager Matt Alexander wrote in an email.
The format will be a 60 lap race but at lap 50 a caution flag will restack the field for a 10 lap shoot out.
“Gauges’ number was 10 and you will notice a lot of things based on the number 10 for this race. Just in the top 10 we have over $15k in payouts,” Alexander said.
MADDI GORDON MAKES NHRA HISTORY AS 100TH FEMALE WINNER
Kent, Wash. (July 21, 2024) — With her victory in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Northwest Nationals, Maddi Gordon became the milestone 100th female racer to win an NHRA national event.
Gordon, the 20-year-old daughter of recently retired three-time world champion Doug Gordon, defeated Brian Hough in the final round to claim the historic number, a countdown that began nearly 60 years ago when Shirley Shahan won in Stock eliminator at the 1966 Winternationals in Pomona, Calif.
“Oh my god. I can’t believe this,” said Gordon, who is in her first year behind the wheel of the Beta Motorcycles Camaro after taking over the reins from her father. “It feels great. This is amazing. It couldn’t be any better. Thank you to everyone on our team, my family, our sponsors, everyone. I’m just so thrilled.”
Between the 100 female winners, there have been 196 victories, led by six-time Pro Stock world champion Erica Enders, who has 49 of them. Angelle Sampey (Pro Srock Motorcycle, 46 wins), Shirley Muldowney (Top Fuel, 18 wins), Leah Pruett (Top Fuel, Pro Mod, and Factory Stock, 18 wins), and Brittany Force (Top Fuel, 16 wins) round out the top five most successful female winners in NHRA history.
