SHBA – Dreams Do Come True with a Little Help from Our Partners

Dreams do come true...

with a little help from our partners

The Spokane Home Builders Association in partnership with Viking Homes and Habitat for Humanity-Spokane recently broke ground in the Hope Meadows community in Deer Park to officially kick-off the 2019 Home Builders Blitz. Joined by SHBA members The Truss Company, Copper River Homes and Fred’s Appliances, this 4-bedroom home built in an accelerated timeline through the Home Builders Blitz will have a market value of approximately $180,000.

“The Spokane Home Builders Association has a long partnership with Habitat for Humanity and shares the same passion of providing homeownership opportunities for our residents,” said Joel White, Executive Officer at SHBA. “We are very excited that Viking Homes has stepped forward to coordinate the generous donations of skilled labor and materials provided by our members to build a new home for a hardworking family in our community.”

The goal of this project is for SHBA members and Viking Homes to work together to deliver a fully-finished home at no cost to Habitat for Humanity. The future homeowner, Janessa, will then purchase the home paying no more than 30% of her monthly income toward mortgage payments.

Janessa and her children found themselves homeless after fleeing from domestic abuse. While she was able to find transitional housing, there is a limit on how long she can stay. Fighting hard to provide a better life for her kids she found Habitat.

“Being a single mom has many challenges. I’m working two jobs just to make ends meet. Having an affordable home would be a miracle.” shares Janessa, a future homeowner. “Thank you for your support to help build my future home. Thank you!”

“When we see partnerships like Viking Homes & SHBA emerge in our community, it’s a testament to the heart and generosity that rings true in Spokane,” said Michelle Girardot, CEO Habitat for Humanity-Spokane. “Affordable homeownership through Habitat for Humanity helps families achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance they need to build a better life for themselves and their families.”
