IWS SPRINT SERIES CHAMPION | STATELINE SPEEDWAY
Doug Cotey.
Doug Cotey made his tow from the Tri Cities worthwhile winning the 2024 IWS Sprint Series title.
Cotey, from West Richland, said the key to securing a 284-272 title win over Cody Ridge from Snohomish was simple.
“I was just consistent throughout the year with making all the races and finishing them,” Cotey wrote in an email. He scored in the top 5 three times and top 10 four times.
Cotey did not win any races this year but got his first top 3 in Wenatchee. “That was a big boost in points for me,” he said. “That was my best finish since starting in sprint car racing.”
Cotey raced motocross at a younger age but got into cars in his 20’s.
“I started racing in the Northwest Super Fours and did a bit of racing there,” Cotey said.
He did not race for a while but with help from a friend, John Hill, he decided to get into the sprint cars and has been doing this for the past four years.
In real life, Cotey is a registered nurse and has been for 16 years.
Cotey’s crew is of course composed of family, his wife Crystal Cotey, sons Steven and Jacob Cotey, Johnny Rumsey and Melissa Morris.
His sponsors are Columbia Safety LLC, out of Pasco WA, Badger Tactical of Pasco, Hot Rod Company out of Spokane for building his motor.

BUMP-TO-PASS CHAMPION | STATELINE SPEEDWAY
Sarah Hodgason.
Sarah Hodgason won the 2024 Bump-to- Pass championship at Stateline speedway in just her second season behind the wheel.
Her keys to victory were largely showing up and finishing in top 3-5. “I technically had two wins this season, one after the race due to the top 2 finishing cars being DQ’d and one on the track win.”
The race on July 3rd was her first official win since Hodgason started racing. “It also gave me a good jump ahead to keep my position in points.”
Hodgason describes her initiation to racing as plenty problematic.
“Last season was my first in this class and I had more car issues than I could ever imagine,” Hodgason wrote in an email. “I only actually finished three races, ended the season on my fourth transmission, multiple races brakes going out, and a bad wall hit.”
Over the winter her team and family made the decision to build a new car since that was not the first big wall hit that car had taken and it was bent in every way possible, Hodgason explained.
“This season I came out with my new Monte Carlo and finished every race, got a couple wins and won season points,” Hodgason said. “I am getting faster every race day and cannot wait for next season.
This was Hodgason’s fifth season racing and second in Bump To Pass. She finished fifth in Bump to Pass points in 2023. Her first three seasons were spent in the Roadunner class.
Hodgason works in production at Corbin Custom Works where we make accessories that can be used to make Side by Sides street legal.
Crew/Family consists of Marshall Racing and Blue Line Racing. Sponsors include:
