Republic's Eagle Track Announces 2024 Schedule

REPUBLIC, Wash. — Eagle Track Raceway will get racing going a little earlier than planned.

Under new management under the Eagle Track Racing Association, the nearly 70-year-old 3/8’s mile dirt racetrack will have its initial 2024 event May 25 according to the schedule just released. Early estimates suggested a June opening.

Racing will consist of Fever 4’s, Super Stocks and Modifieds with possibly a Hornet class, a track Facebook post noted.

“Great workday at the track,” was another post. “Was able to get the track smoothed back out and some bigger rocks removed,” it added.

Two more workdays where volunteers are encouraged to attend will take place May 11 and May 18.

“We still have some repairs that need to be made on the guardrails, and a few other little details to be able to race on the 25th,” the post continued.

Nine more race dates are on the schedule including a mid-season championship (July 27) and season championship Oct. 12.

Following uncertainty on operation when former track promoter Jason Pestka decided to no longer operate the track, Ferry County Commissioners agreed on April 8 to let ETRA operate the track which the county owns.

It was Eagle Track Racing Association that is the group which built and started the track decades ago according to Wendy Braun who is spearheading opening the track.

ETRA is a non-profit organization composed of officers and a board of directors.

The association has been behind a myriad of upgrades and improvements over the years. Back in 2015 the ETRA did all the upgrades around the track including new buildings and added more spectator parking, moved and enlarged the pit area.

Gates open at 10 a.m. and racing begins each day at 2 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors/military with 12 and under free.

Further information is available by visiting the track Facebook page.

NASCAR at Kansas has their Photo-Finish, Too

KANSAS CITY, Kansas — The Kentucky Derby was not alone with photo finishes last weekend.

The NASCAR Cup Series experienced the closest finish in its history as Kyle Larson took the win in Sunday’s AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway.

Larson officially won by a mere 0.001 second — just shy of an inch — ahead of Chris Buescher in the closest finish in the history of the series.

The finish was so close that timing and scoring initially had Buescher as the winner, but after further inspection of the replay video, NASCAR determined that Larson narrowly crossed the line first in the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

What made the victory, which came in overtime following a late caution, sweeter was Larson landed third in the two-lap dash to the checkered flag.
